More About The Kitchen

KITCHEN3

There was almost no heat in the house and it had been built so that each of the rooms could be closed off to conserve what heat there was in the winter. This is the second of two oil circulators that provided heat in the winter. We were told that children would fight over who got to sit next to the heater on cold days. The door between the kitchen and dining room was removed and a large opening has replaced it. The kitchen door was moved to accommodate a new stove and allow for a small cabinet and some light switches.

Central heat and air conditioning have replaced the oil circulators.

The floor was covered with a wood-grained linoleum. We overlaid this with a bright Armstrong Solarian ®

KITCHEN7 The old doors were stored away for possible future use. This new door was added. It has an etched window that allows us to look out onto the enclosed porch.

The walls in the kitchen and dining room are painted a pale yellow. The windows and doors are trimmed in bright white.

This is a better view of the old sink. The galvanized water pipes were almost completely blocked with rust. This had left all the places, that had running water, coated in rust. They had to go!
